Licensed Practical Nursing, Certificate

The Licensed Practice Nursing Program is a 1 year certificate program. The graduates are prepared to provide direct nursing care at an entry staff level in a variety of health care settings. Successful completion of the program requriements qualifies the student to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Satisfactory achievement on this examination quailfies the graduate for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

Program Description:

The Licensed Practice Nursing Program is a 1 year certificate program. The graduates are prepared to provide direct nursing care at an entry staff level in a variety of health care settings. Successful completion of the program requirements qualifies the student to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Satisfactory achievement on this examination qualifies the graduate for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). 

Program Outcomes:

1.Provide professional care within the legal LPN scope of practice

2. Apply the critical components of evidence-based nursing practice.

3. Identify quality improvement strategies as an entegral component of nursing practice.

4. Demonstrate critical thinking problem solving by applying clinical knowledge to provide safe, culturally appropriate client and family centered care.

5. Identify roles/responsibilities of health care team members

6. Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary team using effective communication.

7. Demonstrate information literacy and use a variety of resources including technology in nursing care. 

Requirements & Specific Information:

Additional expenses to be met by the student are (1) a health history and physical examination including testing for tuberculosis and other communicable diseases, (2) uniforms, (3) Lab Supplies Pacs (Nurse Pacs), (4) hospitalization insurance as neither the hospital nor the college insures the student against accidents or illnesses, and (5) Alliance for Clinical Education (ACE) Matching and Placement Program (MAPP) system, including criminal background check and drug screening.

Students must achieve grade “C” or better, or grade “Pass” (if the course is a Pass/Fail course) for all the Core and the General Education courses which are prerequisites and/or considered a part of this program.

The Michigan Board of Nursing may deny an LPN license to an applicant who has been convicted of a crime or is addicted to drugs or alcohol.

The clinical courses of this program are graded with a Pass/Fail grade. The student must receive a Pass grade in the clinical courses.
